Appearance: Akutare is fairly skinny, a fact made all the more apparent by his lack of shirt. He has a boyish face, framed by short, blond hair spiked slightly in back. His eyebrows are quite prominent, being shaped like lightning bolts and a completely different color than his hair (purple). His eyes are a pinkish-purple color, and his pointed ears are pierced twice with purple earrings.

Akutare likes to keep up a “rock star” image. He wears a long, white coat with purple inside. It has a long collar, extending up past his head, a slit near the beginning of the sleeves, purple buttons going up the sleeves, and chains around the wrists. Around his neck is a gold medallion with an “A” etched into it. Akutare also wears a pair of tight, low-cut, purple jeans with a white belt and white boots with a purple sole.


Personality: Akutare has adopted his role as the Dark Hero to his personality. He is a star, and he knows it, and he wants to be absolutely sure that everyone else knows it too. As such, he will often stretch the truth or interpret the truth to suit his fantasies, which usually involve him saving the day in some way. He has an image to keep up, after all.

He has a habit of getting himself into trouble, doing whatever it takes to get the shots he needs when the camera’s rolling, and pulling pranks to keep his name in the spotlight (to the point where he is the record holder for the longest string of ding-dong-ditches in the Netherworld). He can be cowardly most of the time, and will try to worm his way out of trouble, but when he’s really needed, he won’t hesitate to help out in his own way. However, if it involves money, be warned, for you are likely going to be the one footing the bill.

Akutare is also very, very close to his family, and will do just about anything for them.


Abilities: Akutare, though he can be completely clueless, can also be very clever. He is also very acrobatic, able to perform multiple flips and somersaults with ease.

Akutare is also a skilled guitar player and singer, enough so that he had his own band and was a rock star in addition to being a movie star. In fact, a guitar is his main weapon, and he has the ability to channel electricity through it. Unfortunately, his guitar was left at home, so he would have to make do with something in Manhattan.

But, even with the power drain, he would still be able to use two of his special attacks: Shocking Soul and Love Dynamite. Shocking Soul releases far-spreading bolts of lightning in four directions after a quick backflip, while Love Dynamite brings down multiple bolts of lightning from the sky after a guitar solo. They aren’t as powerful as they would normally be, however, not quite having the range and the punch they once had (Love Dynamite usually ends with an explosion, for example). They might knock someone off their feet if they hit, but they aren’t too terribly strong. They’re more impact than electricity. I would assume that he could likely use regular bolts of lighting as well (as he likes to use them to show off in the game), but like the other two attacks, the range and power would be limited and the bolts would vary in accuracy.

My Heart Shakes would not be available at all, since Manhattan would probably not be able to support the sheer power of the Improbable Wire From Nowhere. Nevermind the attack itself. It pales in comparison to that wire.

Without his guitar, Akutare would normally still be able to use his attacks—although he’d have a slightly harder time of it, and he’d be limited to his simple ones—but he seems to have lost that ability in Manhattan. Also, they leave him either out of breath for a short period of time (for a single bolt, increasing in length as he wears himself out) or completely exhausted (from any of his signature attacks) .

Akutare is also capable of some hand-to-hand combat (which he managed to likely pick up from various choreographed fight scenes), but would be easily bested by anyone with real skill.


Weaknesses: Akutare has a bad habit of getting too wrapped up in his fantasies. He will play them out to the end, sometimes losing sight of the truth and who he is in the process until someone reminds him. He isn’t as overly obsessed with his fame as he used to be, but he does enjoy it and the attention it gets him, and will revel in it every chance he gets.

Though not completely stupid, he can be rather clueless, sometimes having to have a subject beat him over the head before he understands what’s going on. Thus, he can be easily tricked, either by others or, sometimes, by himself and his own ideas.

As stated before, Akutare is a bit of a coward and will run if a situation gets to be a little too hairy for his liking or avoid it altogether.

Akutare never was the strongest demon, and that has only been underlined in Manhattan. He’s about as strong as he looks now (which isn’t that much), and while he might have had a chance in a hand-to-hand match because of higher strength, now he would be taken out in a snap. Essentially, Akutare can only rely on his guitar skills, which aren’t as accurate or as powerful as they were before in addition to them being wildly show-offy and interruptible.


Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider

History: It isn’t known exactly when, but Akutare became a star. A big star, with movies and concerts, and TV shows, and everything. He sent the money he received home to his family (consisting of his mother, his little brothers, two baby twins and a Hellcat), being the sole source of money for the family.

However, as time passes, fame fades, and Akutare had to resort to a second-rate travel show, “Tripping with Akutare” (“Tripping with Axel”) to stay on TV. He happened to be filming his show on Veldime around the same time that Adell, a boy with a grudge against Overlord Zenon happened by. Rozalin, Zenon’s daughter, told Adell that Akutare was Zenon, and Adell proceeded to beat the ever loving crap out of the former star.

That was when Akutare’s life took a downhill plunge. The TV network pronounced the Dark Hero dead, despite the fact that the demon was very much alive.

He took to living in the ruins of the palace that Rozalin had lived most of her life in. This, however, only lasted a day, as Adell and Rozalin happened to wander by at that point. Akutare learned of Rozalin’s heritage, and began his first attempt to prove he wasn’t dead: fighting Adell… again. Obviously, this didn’t turn out so well, and he was dragged off again, defeated but with some good shots of the fight.

Akutare’s second attempt to prove he wasn’t dead came when he kidnapped Adell’s little brother and sister (by bribing them with candy), challenging Adell to come to the Dallos River in order to get them back. He asked for Rozalin (and allowing Akutare to beat Adell up) in exchange for the two children, but he was soundly beaten for his efforts once again. He still had his secret plan to edit the footage in tact, but that was pretty much stopped in its tracks the moment one of the kids—Taro—fell into the river.

And that was definitely not as planned. Akutare did not mean for that to happen and never even came close to wanting it to happen. So… he took a cab (on the top of a mountain… I kid you not) to the cave that Taro had been washed down to and saved the boy’s life. Right afterwards, he was set upon by Cu Siths and had to be saved by Adell and company. This time, however, he paid back the favor, using the demon summoning flute the group had dropped to guide a powerful demon away from them.

Akutare then got a job as the MC of a tournament that Overlord Zenon was holding, fighting Adell and company in the final round (according to his own bias and judgment, he won the semifinal, despite not being in the actual tournament at all). Once again, this fight was just a set up to get some good shots of Akutare fighting, but the film in the camera ran out, thus ruining his chances of that.

By this point, Adell just felt sorry for the demon, and decided to drag him and his crew along while they went to meet Overlord Zenon. The second Zenon began to threaten the party, Akutare, the Director, and Zombie Cameraman dashed off to get out of the way.

Then Etna appeared, challenging Overlord Zenon to a battle, starting up the fight while Adell and company escaped. She ended up defeating Zenon.

Best of all? It was all caught on tape. He sent the video in and ended up getting gigs all over the place. He even ended up becoming a newscaster. However, he began to lose sight of what the Dark Hero was about, holding charity concerts and just generally acting more like a hero than a Dark Hero. Director, seeing what was happening, immediately went to Akutare’s family and got his little brother on TV, turning Akutare back to the path he was really supposed to be on.

He immediately rushed off to Overlord Zenon’s palace, where hundreds of Overlords from alternate Netherworlds had gathered in order to challenge Zenon. Akutare used the flute to save Adell and company once again before going to confront some of the Overlords, setting the creatures he’d just saved Adell from after them. Next came the Overlords that had just arrived (mainly ladies, these). Posing as Zenon’s right-hand-man, Akutare offered them the once-in-a-lifetime chance for a tour around the castle, ending at Zenon (for a fee, of course).

Then, in his greatest act, the act that he would go down in infamy for… Akutare claimed that the entire incident with Zenon was a hoax created by himself. He of course was beaten by the other Overlords, but he survived, reaching stardom and infamy once again.

And then he ended up in Manhattan.
